I've been making up words for as long as I can remember, but it wasn't until around 1977 or 1978 that I started putting them together into languages. _Star Wars_ was certainly an influence, but there isn't much = in the early languages specifically inspired by the movie or its sequels. Tolkien was a later influence, but I'd already started designing = languages before reading LotR. Esperanto may have been another influence. But I = think I probably would have gone on designing languages without these = influences, and it's more likely that my interest in conlanging was one thing that attracted me to Esperanto and Tolkien's languages.
