Well, become is a process, the "object" could be in another case, like
an allative or something. Finnish uses the translative for the "object"
of verbs of change, e.g., "Poika kasvoi mieheksi" = "The boy grew into a
man". Granted, ergative/absolutive still seems highly unlikely to be
used in a case like that.
