As my teacher, George van Driem, used to say - Classical Tibetan
(and for that matter Dzhonka) spelling is utterly sensible and rational.
You just have to remember the sound-change laws for the past thousand
yearsi, apply them consequently, and bob's your uncle ;-). I never
succeeded in learning the spelling, though, pronouncing everything as a
low, grumbling 'thro'...
