But a Chinese reader can still make an informed
(though by no means always correct) GUESS at both
pronunciation and meaning.  Eg. "It looks like zhen2
so probably something like zhen2 or zen2 maybe chen2
and it's got the the "bird" radical so it must be some
kind of bird . . .
