There's a good introduction to scales on one of my Jarrda pages, and it's
even on-topic! See http://www.io.com/~hmiller/Jarda/music.html for a
series of examples of different scales and the Jarrda names for notes in
the various scales. It starts with the familiar 12-note scale and =
proceeds
through 19-note and 15-note scales to more unusual ones like Owen
Jorgensen's "Five and Seven Temperament", and even scales without octaves
(Wendy Carlos' Alpha scale and the exotic Pierce-Bohlen scale).
Hlererhoi, my latest attempt at a language, has a different =
classification
of intervals and note names:
douma unison, 1/1, "do"
ghema 17/16
kema small major second, 10/9
rema large major second, 9/8, "re"
pima 8/7
gama 7/6
n=FCma minor third, 19/16
m=FCma minor third, 6/5
jama 11/9
mima major third, 5/4, "mi"
hjima 9/7
fama perfect fourth, 4/3, "fa"
vama 11/8
zhima 7/5
solma perfect fifth, 3/2, "sol"
l=FCma minor sixth, 8/5
hlama 13/8
lama major sixth, 5/3, "la"
dj=FCma 7/4
tj=FCma minor seventh, 9/5
tyma major seventh, 15/8, "ti"
