I knew a Featherstone years ago, he pronounced it as spelled-- but he was
American so what can you expect?
There's an old joke-- an American in England was told that Cholmondoley (?)
was pronounced "chumley". Later in the conversation the American mentioned
that he'd spent his honeymoon at "Niffles", and when questioned about that,
said "well, it's spelled Niagara Falls".
