Funny: I've always assumed that "American" refered to the continents in the phrase "native American", and therefore included not only the Red Indians (is that term PC nowadays?) but also the Aleutians and (non-Siberian) Eskimos. (Anybody remembering the discussion, perhaps a year back, about whether the use of "American" as the adjective going with the USA was a good idea? I still maintain that it creates some practical problems that could've been avoided ... altho' it's obviously little point in trying the change it now. Not to mention how thankful I'd been if Columbus and Co hadn't refered to the inhabitants of the Caribbean as "Indians" ...)
