OK, BP and Joe, thanks for the answers. My last contact with British motor products was in the 50s-60s-- and the owner's manual for my first motorcycle was a reprint of the 1939 edition :-)) I did think there was a different term for "bumper", but apparently memory wasn't serving. Headlights/headlamps are headlights in the US.
