Mythical? Here's some animals I've invented (altho details are unknown). Types of fish (probably mostly edible, used in female names): Ikida' Siwa' Slikati' Disi' Niaba' Ilimi' Dimi' Kibi' Lalka'pas Naituni' Nilda' Gima'na Nissi' Disita' Tibi'ni These are all derived from female friends' names, with a specific distortion protocol applied (ikida', for instance, comes from "Erica"), and last names added to a few short names (naituni', for example, < Thai Nguyen). For the most part, I simply adapted the name to the phonology, and then re-arranged consonants, for example, Erica --> Idika --> Ikida (d = [r] before i/y), Thai Nguyen --> Tainuyin --> Naituniy --> Naituni. Now, migratory birds (used in male names, derived from male friends' names, same distortion protocol) Pina' (from my name, Nik --> nika --> kina --> pina) Nyata' Naga' Swikata' Dami'ti Duki' Kyatla'sa Swikita' Kamini' Yada' Lapa' Masuti'n Budida' Liba' Anda' Pataska' -- "It has occured to me more than once that holy boredom is good and sufficient reason for the invention of free will." - "Lord Leto II" (Dune Chronicles, by Frank Herbert) http://members.tripod.com/~Nik_Taylor/X-Files/ ICQ #: 18656696 AOL screen-name: NikTailor
