Well, what bothers me most about "genre" when pronounced with /Z/ is the
nasal vowel - I don't really care for the nasal vowels in French.
Then again, it bothers me when people don't use it. Kind of a paradox.
Needless to say, I don't say "genre" very often.
I've heard /dZOnr=/, which is something I'd really like to forget.
I'll join the chorus of people who like /Z/, but I'll admit that it can
be sub-par in certain contexts.
