I don't know, but it sounds to me like the Welsh double "l": llyfr Lloegr, etc.

I've always thought of the lateral fricative as a hissed "l," where you put your tongue in the "l" position and hiss out the sides of your mouth. In Welsh, you should choose which side you hiss out of and really give it some spit. ;-) Attempts in Shakespeare's day produced Floyd (for Lloyd), and Fluellen (for Llewelyn). Sally
