Re: Conlang for giant caterpillars

Though the thread has drifted away from the
original subject, I'd like to remember everyone that
you're talking about my conlang! :)
I've changed the name of the Caterpillars to _Slit!_
The revised phonology so far is as follows:
InterDnt Dnt Alv Pal Vel
Stop t c k
Fric |h th s ch kh
Lat tl sl cl
Clic t! s! c!
The alveolar series tends to become postalveolar to make
a stronger distinction from the dental series (special in
the case of the laterals).
Vowels:
i u-
E
a
(written i, e, a, u, and all of them "whispered").
The asymmetry is explained by three main reasons:
1) The missing /O/ would have to be unrounded, 'cos the
Slit! have no lips to round, and it'd be too difficult
to distinguish from /a/ (/A/? /Q/? as in "father").
2) I wanted to have an "e"!
3) I don't care about asymmetries or any violations
to universals. Those universals are human ones. :)
I thought of fricative vowels as Kristian suggested
-- I really did, but if I make my vowels fricative,
then I what do I do with the original fricatives?
I'm having syllabic consonants, however; all the
fricatives, and some clicks will be pretty syllabic
too (as in my second word, _c!c!ka_ "people").
Still making big grammar decissions -- tell you later.
