No problem with that book; it's a very useful introduction both to phonemics
as well as "reducing languages to writing". Which indeed was one of Pike's
major concerns, given his close association (founder?) of the SIL, whose
main purpose-- aside from learning and describing languages (and they did
pioneering work in many areas)-- was Bible translation.
