Well, I wasn't objecting on the basis that [K] doesn't look like the IPA
symbol; I was objecting on the basis that it looks like a K, which I in
no way associate with anything lateral or fricative. :)
That sort of disconnect true of many other CXS symbols, of course, but
the vowels at least have the advantage of being syllable nuclei; when
you see something like [sM] it's pretty clear that one of those symbols
has to be a vowel despite not looking like one. But when I see
something like [Kuwid] I really want to pronounce the [K] like [k] or
[x] or something in that area . . .
