Don't forget "Shoot" as yet another substitute for the
fecal exclamation.
"Darn" can mean a lot of other things as well:
"Oh darn this bad weather."
"Oh darn the socks and be done with it."
"Darn it all!"
Making "darn" more versitile than "shoot" as a
semi-profanity.
As a child I was told not to say "gosh", as in "gosh
darn it", because that was just a substitute for "god"
as an exclamation, and, therefore, just as
disrespectful of the diety.
