Why does everyone seem to be so against Esperanto? It works, and it's
survived--thrives, no less. I've never heard of Volapük being taught at
college campuses, but know of many Esperanto classes (including two here at
Berkeley and at least one at Davis). And while Esperanto has its faults, I
say if you're going to have a universal auxilliary language (a big "if" for
many, I know), it might as well be the front runner. If there were too many
choices out there the whole idea would be destroyed. Just let survival of
the fittest take its course and don't complain about the extinct trilobiters
in our past.
