Sure. See Chomsky's "Manufacturing Consent". Since the U.S. government
cannot (very well) control what its citizens *do*, it can only maintain
control by regulating what they *think*. Soviet propaganda was pathetic stuff:
anybody with a functioning brain could see it was self-serving lies.
U.S. propaganda, sharpened by the advertising culture, is really very
successful.
