Yes, I did completely fail to understand this particular metaphor. Given
that I've never (to my knowledge) encountered it before, and that a literal
interpretation made perfect sense (despite making the statement factually
false), I don't think it's particularly odd either.
That said, I have no reason to believe that I'm _generally_
worse-than-average at detecting metaphors.
