The whole book, which I remember from its first appearance, (and have a copy)
was and remains hilarious despite the dated bits. McCawley and a group of
his students were at Michigan for a year or two just at that time, a high
point, even tho his students tended to view the rest of us as total dodos.
Maybe we were.
It's hard to conceive of a similar Festschrift being presented to anyone
else. Chomsky? He'd throw thunderbolts at the perpetrators.
