Of the books listed, the only two I've read which haven't yet been
mentioned here and have linguist heroes are _The Sparrow_ and _The
Embedding_.
I'm pretty sure the heroine of _Jaran_, by Kate Elliott, was a
linguist, although I don't recall it playing much part in the story.
