"Broiling" is cooking by direct exposure to radiant heat (unless you
are talking about bread, in which case the verb is "toast"). Broiling
can happen in an oven (typical ovens here in the U.S. have a temperature
setting above the maximum, labeled "BROIL", which keeps the heat on
continuously) or on a grill, in which case it may also be called
"grilling".
This can also be called "barbecuing", but this term also has the
sense "to cook on low heat while covered with barbecue sauce".
The point about the Burger King burger is that it is cooked in a device
resembling an assembly-line toaster, rather than being sauteed.
Figuratively, people are said to broil when exposed to direct
sunlight, particularly if they are sunburned.
