But note this difference:
You're watching your home team play basketball. Only seconds
remain in the game, and your team trails by 2 points. Your team
get the ball near the opponents' basket, and throws it to a player
at midcourt. Now only 1 second remains, so he has to shoot it:
If it goes in, that's a 3-point shot, so your team would win. But
it's highly unlikely to go in, since it's such a long-distance shot.
If you're gloomy as it sails toward the basket -- but it does, in
fact, go in -- then you can only say "yay!" (when it goes in).
But if your hope was so strong that you managed to visualize
that it would go in, then you get to say "yes!" (when it goes in).
