I'll pick up a one-cent piece if I see one on the
ground. They're still in use, and it's hardly an
effort to pick one up. (". . . just-a thirteen-a

Exactly. My pocket of coins waxes and wanes
as I receive change and as I give it in making
payment. Many people (my girlfriend included)
never give change, then they periodically empty
it all into a jar. Just doesn't make sense to me.
