Well, right. I mean, I'm proud too of my state's heritage, and my family's
role in that (one of my ancestors fought in the Revolution against Santa Ana),
but I think, for most people, they look to the Federal government today as
the edifice which embodies all their hopes and aspirations (much as I might
dislike that). Afterall, there are only *two* states that can claim to have existed
in their own right as nation states before becoming part of the United States,
and only one of those was a democratic republic (Texas). For most people
in most states, their histories are much more inextricably linked with general
American history. (Not that this is bad, or anything. It's just different.)
Well, I'm at a total loss as to how to make this relevant to conlanging.
Oh well ;-)
