The combined result of the Swedish school-system's insitence on an outdated
version of RP, with watching subtitled American television and movies, I
would say.
It helps to be able to switch rhoticity on and off at will. I can do that,
but the non-rhotic version of my accent reportedly sounds like an Irishman
trying unsuccessfully to speak RP. Perhaps the Dublin tendency to
pronounce /A/ as [Q] has something to do with it, so that my accent with
only [A] comes across as what a hypercorrecting Dubliner would achieve.
