Yep, that goes for me, too. Though I've always shown a
certain interest into words.

If the signs hadn't been so difficult I wouldn't have
forgotten them all. Since I am spoilt with German
orthography, I only made ciphers of the Latin alphabet.
That changed when I came to conlanging two years ago.

Same here. Found the LCK (http://www.zompist.com/kit.html),
thought 'give it a try' and ended up here.
