I've thought of that explanation, but generally when you say that people end up saying "tiou /tjU/ penses que je parle bien français ? C'est siour /sjUr/ ?" which I find annoying personnally (sorry, but I'm proud of our /y/ :)) ).

That's also an idea. In fact, it was mainly what I was trying to describe, but with different words. -- although my Old English prof used to do it
