Yeah, same here "That man is my friend's son", but that, for me, also
applies to children, "that boy is my friend's son" sounds a little
better than "that boy is my friend's child". But, in
non-gender-specific situations, "child" is definitely more common than
"offspring", it's "Adult Children of Alcoholics" not "Adult Offspring of
Alcoholics".
