Here the IPA Help program is really practical :)) . It has both sounds, and
they definitely sound different :) . [L] has a velar articulation, while the
velarised l [5] has definitely an alveolar articulation with a velar component
added. the two sound quite different.
By the way, Maggel, with all its excentricities, has a phonemic [L] as well as
a phonemic [M\] (the velar approximant) :))) . It just couldn't *be*
without :)) .
