[...] I already have UTF-8 support in my text terminal (rxvt-unicode). Currently, I have XKB configured to switch between English, Russian, and Polytonic Greek (bound to the otherwise useless Windows key), and the Menu key as the Compose key to input accented Latin characters. Doesn't quite cover all the possibilities, but I can get pretty far. For IPA, I use polyml, a utility I wrote that translates stuff embedded within <ipa>...</ipa> tags into UTF-8. It was originally written with HTML in mind, but works in VI and the like, as well. T -- Why ask rhetorical questions? -- JC
