Actually, in conjunction with Zadri, I did.
When I had created a Zadri that could pretty much stand on its own without
major developmental needs, I set forth to create a civilization, as in
customs, a planet, cities, food... culture.. and eventually religion. I dont
want to go into much detail, but it's based on the Zodiac calender, but with
alterations:
The Zadaran year contains 10 months, so I used only ten Zodiac 'gods'. There
are 11 'gods' in total; 10 zodiac calendar 'gods' and 1 'supreme' god.
Basically it comes down to that you'd pray to your 'month god' for simple
things, like a good day, a good harvest, etc. That month god would basically
serve as a messenger to the 'supreme god' and relay your prayers. If you had
a dire emergency.. as in.. your imminent death, then you'd pray to the
supreme god directly. It's a little more trickier in that, because the
Zadaran culture is very scientific and the religious aspect (especially with
a polydeitic religion) is mostly afectatious.. but its basically based in
ancient roots, as in the Zodiac is based in ancient roots in our society.
I haven't worked out the ancients of it, but it's pretty 'realistic' to say
that at one time the Zadaran society believed multiple gods reigned over
various conditions, as believed by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks. Because
the Zadaran society is highly influenced by these cultures, I chose a
religion similar to the cultures (as opposed to say.. another..)
OH! For those of your conlangers who've developed a society with your
language (and eventually a religion thereof:) have you, if you've reflected
your consocieties on natsocieties, have your equally based any religions on
those of the society on which you base?
