Ha! :) Sorry, I just found this funny, but of course you had no way to know. I don't live on Catalina Island. I live in Hemet, which is just NE of Temecula. My lodge's name is Temecula/Catalina Island because the lodge on Catalina was about to go under when the Masonic club in Temecula was looking to start a lodge. The guys in Temecula convinced Catalina Island lodge to move their charter over here to be taken over by the Temecula Masons.

I did contact Josh Brandt-Young from the list and he helped me out a good deal. I should have another stab at the vowels ready soon.

I have decided it would be easiest to not worry about defining allophones and just stick to the representation of /@/.

Yes, that is correct for me: 'cot' and 'caught' would both be [kAt], and 'father' is something like [fADr] (I'm just not sure about the second syllable). ---------------------------------------- Michael David Martin, Master Mason Temecula/Catalina Island Lodge #524 Free & Accepted Masons of California
