DECAL: Readings?

I'd like suggestions of what would be good things to put in the class reader.
As an example: essays about conlanging, essays about good design in
general, rants & apologetics on conlanging, personal recounts, ideas
for nifty features, ideas that have never been done before in
languages, etc. etc. etc.
Also, I'd like suggestions for books - either for me, or to assign
excerpts from as readings, or to assign for reading as a whole.
(E.g., David Peterson's recommendation of Describing Morphosyntax was
indeed an excellent one. Not all that hard to read, but can be taken
almost directly to be applied as a "how to design your morphosyntax"
manual. ;-))
What have you read that influenced your conlanging in positive ways?
