"Ube" (purple yam) is different from "taro" (Colocasia esculenta). I'm
not 100% sure, but I think ube is in the Dioscoreaceae family, although I
don't know the exact scientific name for it... The Japanese call
it "murasaki yamaimo" (purple mountain potato).
