Jumping around on teh thread, someone mentioned that the US had, for
accounting puirposes only, a mil (1/1000 $). Well, Malta, until a few
years ago, had such coins as real physical items. 1000 mils = 100 cents =
1 lira maltija. The coins themselves were made of tin (alloyed?), and soft
enough to bend by hand in warm weather. Sadly, they are no longer in
circulation.
