I love the Italian and some of the French designs. Austria /
Switzerland (I forget which) are also not bad. I hear the
Greek designs are good too (and are also bucking the new
"tradition" by calling the small deenomination "lepton"
rather than "cent". The Dutch and Irish (sad to say!!)
dedsigners seem to have suffered terminal brain farts in
their design "attempts". All the Irish ones will have the
Harp - a nice concept, but JMJ, there's gonna be seven
coin types, and you'd think they could come up with more
than one design! Dutch coins have been hideously ugly for
15 years or so.

So would a lot of us (collectors)! Certainly by mid January
you should be able to get all you want from either your bank
or local forn exchange place (airport, train station,
spaceport, etc.).
You'll be hard pressed to get those from small and out of the
way countries, though.

If you're looking for some from each country, and have access to
Usenet, try rec.collecting.coins; you'll be able to contact folks
from all over E-land willing to trade for new euros.
We also have lots of European friends here on Conlang that might
be willing to help!

As far as I'm aware, paper. The plastic would have been smarter.
(Oz has polymer notes which are nearly indestructible and pretty
close to uncouterfeitable.)
