The first punctuation was the space. Very true about material your group
is to use.

Cuniform, wedge shapes, cause it was easy to use clay, of which there
was ALOT in old Sumeria and after wards.

Heiroglyphs were first done in stone it seems, then went to papyrus, or
some say they came about the same. Since a cursive form came about
rather quickly. Papyrus has it's limitations. Expensive for one..

Ogham is best for stone or wood. Same with Runes, which seems to be a
form of Greek or Latin characters or like, used by Germanic tribes to
write things.

Direction of writing. Is your people left or right handed. As well as
the material helps. IT is easier to carve right to left when carving in
stone, but easier to go left to right when writing, since you can see
it. but easier I suspect when using a brush to go up to down. Left to
right or.. Don't want to smudge things?

Worked once on a script that looked sort of like Tengwar, but was more
like Mongolian in it was up to down.
