Is this a Mongolian thing, too? ISTR /ke/ > [ke] and /ko/ > [qo], inter alia.
Maybe it was *ke > /ke/ and *ko > /qo/, or some other notation. I don't think
it was a very technical book that I read it in.
It's not Turkic, but it is at least Altaic.
