Most reactions I get to my interests in conlanging and conlangs is of
two flavors, tied specifically to the situation.

1) They see me carrying around a book on lojban, ask what it is. I
explain, start talking about predicate calculus, lack of any
recognizable parts of speech, etc. The eyes usually glaze over, and
the listener chalks it up to just one more way I'm weird (I work in a
corporate, suit+tie environment, but have a ponytail, goatee, multiple
earrings (and others, but they don't see those :-), tattoos, and
usually four or more electronic devices of varying sophistication
attached to my person.  So they don't see conlangs as so strange :-)

2) They see the tattoo on my arm in Quenya, written in Tengwar. Most
people assume it is Sanskrit, and ask if it is, and what it says. I
explain, no it isn't Sanskrit, it's Elvish.

"It's what?"

"Elvish. Elves, from Tolkien's LotR. I taught myself enough to write a
dedication to my daughter."

That's about where their minds start to boggle. :-)

My family doesn't pretend to understand it - they write it off as
another one of my weird artistic interests.

I have one (real-world) friend who is passingly interested, but he's
much too practical to see the point.....
