Let's see... 40 from 2002 is 1962. Didn't they have ones at that
time? My typewriter is early 20th century, which explains its
onelessness. Since you deny using a oneless typewriter, why would
you use the ell in stead of the one anyway? And yes, very old
typewriters didn't have a one key, so the ell was used in its
place.
