I can only speak for Swedish. The supine is used with "have"
and the past participle is used with "be". Thus:
Jag har älskat. I have loved. Supine.
Jag var älskad. I was loved. Past participle.
The only function of the supine is to form the perfect and
the pluperfect tenses.
There is also the question of gender:
Restaurangen(N-gender) är nedbrunnen. The restaurant is burnt down.
Huset(T-gender) är nedbrunnet. The house is burnt down.
So even though the ppl form of t-gender forms and the supine
form look the same, they are two different forms, as can be
seen in n-gender forms.
The supine is used way more often than the ppl, so these examples
sound somewhat odd.
I'm not very good at Swedish grammar, although I speak it well. :)
So I'm sure someone (Andreas? BPJ?) can correct me and/or give better
examples.
