Quite! Irish is no more a valid ethnic term than
is Mediterranean; and is about as useful a
"racial" term as black.
Male is one pole of a whole spectrum of
sexualities and genders. I don't have a problem
with it [male] per se so much as a problem with
the notion that we are éither male or female and
nóthing else. I have the same problem with the
gay/straight dichotomy.
