There are three broad ideas that explain Meridonian sound/spelling changes:
a) certain changes which occur only in particular situations in Romance
natlangs
are generalized to all situations: t becomes d, c and qu become k, au becomes
u,
ae becomes e. H is dropped (and represented by '). I is always spelled y.
b) final syllables (esp.masc.-us endings) are stressed and not dropped as in
most Romance natlangs (thus Petrus becomes Pedruz, not Pedro,Pietro etc.) ; as
a compensation, some internal syllables may be dropped though still
represented by ' (as in app'landur).
c) there is a supposed Greek influence from a dynastic union with the
originally Greek speaking city of Telepylos (now Del'pyloz) about 600 conyears ago.
Hence f (and v)
are consistently ph, and x becomes kz (intended to parallel ks in Russian,
though the claim that that would be a Greek influence is very dubious, really.)
