Hmm, actually, they sound very light when I speak, I think.  I noticed
once that I pronounced `machen' like [mahn=].  This obviously is a
rule at least for my dialect for all intervocalic /x/ sounds.  But ok,
/r/ I pronounce as [R] (uvular voiced fricative).  So `Rachen'
(throat) becomes [Rahn=] for me.
