Coping with two or more languages is no problem. Kids can and do learn multiple languages under the right circumstances. The problem comes, as Dan says, when there is an element of *force*, as the parents at my son's cindergarten who demand of their son to speak English with them. I myself grew up speaking Swedish and German, and acquiring a good passive command of Norwegian -- which was later easily converted into semi- active command -- but at about age 9 I refused to speak German to my mother, mainly because other kids had been teasing me because of it. When my son was born I considered to speak Quenya to him, but I rejected it on the grounds that it would create a strange relation between us; being a language minority of two might actually be psychologically unsound. /BP 8^) -- B.Philip Jonsson mailto:melrochX@melroch.se (delete X) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~__ A h-ammen ledin i phith! \ \ __ ____ ____ _____________ ____ __ __ __ / / \ \/___ \\__ \ /___ _____/\ \\__ \\ \ \ \\ \ / / / / / / / \ / /Melroch\ \_/ // / / // / / / / /___/ /_ / /\ \ / /'Aestan ~\_ // /__/ // /__/ / /_________//_/ \_\/ /Eowine __ / / \___/\_\\___/\_\ Gwaedhvenn Angeliniel\ \______/ /a/ /_h-adar Merthol naun ~~~~~~~~~Kuinondil~~~\________/~~\__/~~~Noolendur~~~~~~ || Lenda lenda pellalenda pellatellenda kuivie aiya! || "A coincidence, as we say in Middle-Earth" (JRR Tolkien)
