In Diane Duane's ST novels (which are not canonical) we are told that Romulan is
actually a conlang, created as a daughter language of Old High Vulcan
by the Vulcans who left their planet after the establishment of the
rule of logic (more like "the rule of reality", actually).
Real FORTRAN programmers can program FORTRAN John Cowan
