Unless that language later lost all or a large
portion of its native vocabulary, say for
political reasons.
We did a game on sci.lang (or was it here?) a
while ago, using English grammar and Latin words.
It was totally unrecognisable to anyone who
doesn't know Latin; but if you were familliar
with Latin lexicon, it read most easily. I
wouldn't say this language ceased to be English
in any substantive way.
