Sorry--this isn't immediately conlang-related; I recently started teaching
full-time (long story) and have been busy, but this is where I know to get
ahold of the most linguistically minded people. =)
I was wondering: there are a lot of "how to learn..." language books
oriented toward students, businessfolk, and travelers. Do any exist for
teachers (in the U.S. or elsewhere)? I've startled some kids already as I
know Spanish phrases, and my French is decent enough that I can converse
with the kids who speak Haitian creole, more or less. But I'd love to see
a series of such things giving an overview on family/educational culture(s)
, useful phrases, maybe a section or two on slang and swear words...am I
the only market for this kind of thing? Does it exist anywhere? I wish I
knew enough of any non-English language to write one myself as a
web-resource. *sigh*
ObConlang: Educational terminology/culture in y'all's conlangs?
