Indeed. Luckily, "victime" has also a quasi-adjectival use. When it is used
with the kind of attack the person has been victim of ("victime de vol,
viol, meurtre, d'une crise de fou rire, etc..."), it is often used as
apposition or in predicate position and without article. In this form,
"victime" can be used to refer to anyone without gender clashes.
