Good to see the list back.
>_Krei staksek senos, lai seno srát eidhes._
>"They killed him, because he knew everything."
Not too interesting in Rhean, but it does give me an excuse to show
something a little odd. I don't know much of the correct terminology for a
lot of things in linguistics, so maybe someone can tell me what the hell it
is called that I am doing here:
Tan kros'ioz daze paikuin s'iznios'.
They killed him, because he knew everything.
BUT
Daze paikuin s'iznios' BA tan kros'ioz.
Because he knew everything, they killed him.
See that BA? Watch...
tan - "him"-ACC
kros'ioz - kill-3pl.PAST
daze - because
paikuin - everything-ACC
s'iznios' - know-3sg.PAST
ba - ...
This BA "closes" an if/when clause, or a "because" clause, and probably some
others that I haven't thought of yet. There's got to be a term for this kind
of clause. But it is only used to close the clause when that clause comes
before the main clause. It is not used finally.
Adis böz s'ulak fröbak' ba lin kros'irvi.
If you try to cross the border, we will kill you. (notice BA)
Lin kros'irvi adis böz s'ulak fröbak'.
We will kill you if you try to cross the border. (notice no BA)
adis - if
böz - frontier, limit, extent, also "national border"
s'ulak - cross-INF
fröbak' - attempt-2pl.PRES
ba - ...
lin - "you"-pl-ACC
kros'irvi - kill-1pl.FUT
